Greg Lecoeur

Greg Lecoeur’s work connects people with living ecosystems, a commitment shaped by a childhood split between the Mediterranean Sea and the mountains of Mercantour National Park. What began as a diver’s wish to document underwater life with a Nikon Coolpix 100 evolved into a career after a life-changing encounter with a pod of pilot whales. That experience anchored a long-term dedication to conservation and visual storytelling.

Today Lecoeur builds his practice around the Nikon Z system, relying on the Z8 and Z6III. The Z8’s autofocus and speed are essential for freezing fast, unpredictable wildlife behavior in challenging conditions, while the Z6III offers complementary versatility. For seabirds and marine mammals he favors the NIKKOR Z 100-400mm f/4.5-5.6 VR S and the NIKKOR Z 180-600mm f/5.6-6.3 VR, often extended with the NIKKOR Z TC-1.4x to preserve respectful distance. Underwater, he pairs the NIKKOR Z 24-50mm with a wide-angle conversion system to capture immersive scenes, and turns to the NIKKOR Z MC 105mm f/2.8 VR S for extraordinary close-up detail of the ocean’s smaller inhabitants.

For Lecoeur, equipment is a tool that supports observation, empathy and conservation, enabling images that invite viewers to care for the marine world rather than simply admire it.
